BAC Local 1 Testified in support of NYC Council Resolution 547

On May 31st BAC Local 1 representatives, in cooperation with Mason Tenders District Council Local 79, testified in support of NYC Council Resolution 547 - 2023 which urges the NYC School Construction Authority and the NYC Department of Design and Construction to discontinue the practice of using of precast concrete panels on new construction projects instead of handset block and brick. Local 1 NY Field Representative Innis Layne and Local 1 Technical Consultant John Bachenski both spoke to the committee regarding the resolution.
So far, the Resolution 547 has 23 of 51 council members as co-sponsors. BAC Local 1 continues to meet with members of the Mayor's administration to change the SCA and DDC design policies in light of the damaging impacts of the precast panels on local employment and the environment. Also, we continue to lobby the state legislature to require that manufacturers pay prevailing wages to their workers engaged in off-site custom fabrication of products like precast concrete panels for installation on public works projects.
